VII.
59. Ἔνδον σκάπτε, ἔνδον ἡ πηγὴ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ καὶ ἀεὶ ἀναβλύειν δυναμένη, ἐὰν ἀεὶ σκάπτῃς.
71. Γελοῖόν ἐστι τὴν μὲν ἰδίαν κακίαν μὴ φεύγειν, ὃ καὶ δυνατόν ἐστι, τὴν δὲ τῶν ἄλλων φεύγειν, ὅπερ ἀδύνατον.

16. Μέμνησο ὅτι καὶ τὸ μετατίθεσθαι καὶ ἕπεσθαι τῷ διορθοῦντι ὁμοίως ἐλεύθερόν ἐστι· σὴ γὰρ ἐνέργεια, κατὰ τὴν σὴν ὁρμὴν καὶ κρίσιν καὶ δὴ καὶ κατὰ νοῦν τὸν σὸν περαινομένη.

16. Ricordati che è segno di libertà poter mutare opinione e tener dietro a chi te ne fa opportuno avvertimento. Tua infatti è l’azione che si vien compiendo sotto l’impulso della volontà, del giudizio e del calcolo della mente.

71. Lächerlich ist es, der Schlechtigkeit anderer aus dem Wege gehen zu wollen, was unmöglich ist, aber der eigenen nicht, was doch möglich ist.

16. Seine Meinung zu ändern, und dem, der sie berichtigt, Gehör zu schenken, ist nichts, was unsere Selbständigkeit aufhebt. Es ist ja doch auch dann dein Trieb und Urteil, dein Sinn, aus welchem deine Tätigkeit hervorgeht.

59. Dig inside yourself. Inside there is a spring of goodness ready to gush at any moment if you keep digging.
71. It is ridiculous not to escape from one’s own vices, which is possible, while trying to escape the vices of others, which is impossible.

16. Remember that to change your course and to follow some one who puts you right is not to be less free. For the change is your own action, proceeding according to your own impulse and decision, and indeed according to your mind.
